  • February 5, 2007 - A recent bad experience and countless wasted hours trying to install Microsoft Vista has finally pushed Jeff's patience to the breaking point. He has decided to pull the plug on Microsoft completely and switch to an Apple iMac.


  • February 2, 2006 - The twins are both girls! This will of course mean three times the stress for Jeff once they all reach dating age (currently expected to be around the year 2030 for Miyu and 2032 for the twins...)


  • December 10, 2006 - Yes, the rumors are true. Ikuko is pregnant again. But that's only half of it, literally. Click here to find out why...


  • October 2-7, 2006 - Jeff went to Madrid for a few days on business. It was mostly work, but he did manage to do a little sight seeing before heading back to Tokyo. Click here for some photos.


  • July 1-3, 2006 - Jeff, Ikuko and Miyu took a long weekend and hopped on over to Jeju Island, Korea (about a two and a half hour flight) with their friends Shinji, his wife Tomoe and their son Ryunosuke. Check out some photos from the trip here.

  • October 1, 2005 - Ikuko, Jeff and Grandma Kaneko took Miyu to Meiji Shrine for a traditional Japanese ceremony known as Omiyamairi (A baby's first visit to a shrine to pray for good fortune). Click here for some photos.


  • September 4-10, 2005 - Grandma and Grandpa M (Jeff's mother and step father) flew to Japan to see their new granddaughter. Click here for some photos.


  • August 10, 2005 - Ikuko and Miyu came home from the hospital today! (In Japan, it is standard to remain in the hospital for almost a week after giving birth.)


  • August 5, 2005 - Ikuko and Jeff are happy to announce the birth of their daughter Miyu. For more information click the "Miyu" button on the left side of the page, or click here.


  • July 7, 2005 - Ikuko's due date is only three weeks away, so she and Jeff decided to take one last opportunity for a quiet date with just the two of them by having dinner at Nobu Tokyo. The food was fantastic. Click here for some photos.


  • June 2, 2005 - Just two more months to go! Ikuko went in for her 32 week checkup today, and everyone's doing fine. Click here for some more ultrasound photos.


  • April 29 - May 1, 2005 - Jeff took a brief trip to a place he has wanted to visit for some time: Asuka. Asuka was the location of Japan's capital from the late sixth century to the early eighth century. Because of the relatively late introduction of writing to Japan from the fourth century onwards, the Asuka period is when Japanese history firmly begins to emerge from myth and into verifiable events.   • April 18 - 26, 2005 - Jeff's dad and stepmother, Georgiann, traveled to Japan for the first time to visit Jeff and Ikuko. Their fun-filled week began with an overnight trip to a hot spring resort on the Kinugawa River, followed by a day-long bus tour of Nikko, a day-long bus tour of Tokyo and a trip to Kamakura.   • April 18, 2005 - Jeff returned from another trip to Shanghai for the Morrison & Foerster 2005 Asia Associate/Of Counsel Workshop. This time he was there long enough to get out and explore a little bit, including a tour of the Water Village Zhu Jia Jiao. Click here for some more photos of Shanghai.


  • March 24, 2005 - The doctor says it's a girl...


  • February 24, 2005 - It's official! Ikuko and Jeff are scheduled to become parents sometime around the end of July! Today was Ikuko's 18 week checkup, where Jeff got to see his first live ultrasound, and mother and baby (they don't know yet if it is a boy or a girl) are doing fantastic. Those who have been through it understand of course, but neither words nor still photos can convey the feeling of seeing a live baby moving around on the screen for the first time...


  • January 15, 2005 - Jeff co-wrote an article entitled An Assessment of the UFJ Merger and Integration Protective Provisions under U.S. Law (click here for an English translation) that was just published in the Japanese legal journal Kokusai Shoji Homu.


  • January 11, 2005 - Jeff just returned from his first trip to Shanghai. Although he was only there for one day, he quickly became a big fan. The city has an unmistakable energy that seems to draw you in. Click here to see some photographs.


  • November 13, 2004 - Ikuko and Jeff have moved into a new apartment in Tokyo.


  • September 14, 2004 - Ikuko and Jeff are headed back to Japan! As of October 18, Jeff is being transferred to Morrison & Foerster's Tokyo office. San Francisco is a beautiful and fun city, and it has definitely been an exciting 6 years, but it is time to move on to new and exciting challenges.


  • September 9, 2004 - OK. Van Halen was awesome but nobody puts on a show like Prince. Ikuko and Jeff caught Prince's Musicolog tour at the Oakland Arena. It was easily the best concert that Jeff, a long time Prince fan who has been to many of Prince's previous shows, has ever been to. Even Ikuko, who has never been a big fan, was seen smiling and tapping her feet several times throughout the show.


  • August 13, 2004 - Van Halen is back! Jeff and a couple of friends went to the Oakland Arena to see one of the greatest rock bands ever. Van Halen put on an awesome show. For the latest news on the band, click here.


  • July 4, 2004 - Jeff and Ikuko made a quick trip up to Crater Lake in Oregon over the Fourth of July Weekend. What a spectacular sight! Click here to see some photos.


  • January 20-23, 2004 - Jeff's best friend Shinji recently got married (at the ripe old age of 40...) He and his wife Tomoe visited Ikuko and Jeff in San Francisco for a few days. They hung out in San Francisco, visited Napa and flew to Las Vegas for a few days. Click here to see pictures from the visit. To see an collage-style movie that Shinji put together, click here.


  • September 2003 - Ikuko and Jeff just returned from this year's vacation: a two week tour of Italy. Great shopping, wonderful food, Italy had it all. And thanks to Ikuko's meticulous planning, they had a fantastic time.


  • July 12, 2003 - Ikuko and Jeff headed to Michigan to attend the wedding of Jeff's cousin Rachael, whom he hadn't seen in more than 20 years. It was a beautiful wedding, and they had a great time visiting with relatives that Jeff hadn't seen in years. Click here to see pictures from the wedding.


  • July 4-6, 2003 - Ikuko and Jeff went on their first ever cruise. It was a relatively short 3 day cruise from L.A. to Mexico's Ensanada and back, but they had a great time. Click here to see the photo album from that cruise.


  • February 2003 - Jeff's law firm (Morrison & Foerster) was featured on the February 17, 2003 broadcast of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno!!   • January 2003 - Ikuko returned to work at the Japanese Consulate.


  • September 28, 2002 - Jeff and Ikuko are back from their most recent business trip to Japan.


  • July 2002 - After just two weeks back home, Jeff is being sent back to Tokyo for another couple of months. Ikuko has decided to go with him for the entire trip this time.


  • July 9, 2002 - Check out Jeff's new poem written in response to a "prayer" titled "The New Pledge of Allegiance" which has been making the e-mail rounds and which in turn was said to have been written by a student in Arizona in response to the Pledge of Allegiance ruling. The poem was even published on The Secular Web.


  • May 4, 2002 - Read the euology that my father gave at Grandpa Schrepfer's funeral.


  • April 26, 2002 - It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my grandfather, Donald Schrepfer.


  • April 2002 - Jeff is being sent to Tokyo for a few months to work out of MoFo's Tokyo office.


  • March 2002 - Jeff and Ikuko finally got a new car!! Yes they ditched that old Mercury Cougar (or as one friend referred to it: Jeff's last bastion of Mid-Westernness) and traded it in for a new BMW 325i. It is truly a sweet ride.


  • March 2002 - Ikuko's six months at the Japanese consulate have come to an end and she has decided to take some well deserved time off and take a few classes.


  • February 2002 - Ikuko and Jeff are back from a fantastic trip to Japan. Click here to find out all about it.


  • January 2002 - Ikuko is hard at work planning another trip for her and Jeff. This time it's off to Japan to visit family and friends. Unfortunately, there won't be daily updates for this trip but you can probably expect some very cool photos once they get back.


  • January 2002 - Jeff got a new toy for his birthday: a digital camera. Expect a lot more photos, and maybe even some videos, to be added to the site in the near future.


  • December 2001 - Jeff is sworn in before the California Court of Appeals in a special ceremony in Oakland, California.


  • November 2001 - Jeff passed the bar exam!! Thanks to 3 years of hard work and Ikuko's unwavering support, he has officially realized his goal of becoming a lawyer!


  • November 2001 - Ikuko has taken up the violin...


  • September 2001 - Ikuko began a new job as an administrative assistant at the Japanese Consulate here in San Francisco. She will be a temporary replacement for a woman who has taken a six month maternity leave and she plans on taking the time to decide what she wants to do next.


  • September 2001 - Jeff's life as a student officially comes to an end as he begins his new job as an associate with Morrison & Foerster.


  • September 2001 - Jeff and Ikuko are back from their U.S. tour. They ended up driving 11,875 miles and visiting 39 states, 2 Canadian provinces and they even crossed the border for a brief foray into Mexico at one point.


  • July 2001 - Jeff and Ikuko have embarked on a 6 week long tour of the U.S. While Jeff was studying for the bar exam, Ikuko was hard at work planning the trip. According to Ikuko it will be an 11,500 mile tour de force that will take them through some 36 states.


  • July 2001 - Jeff made it through the 3 day long California bar exam. Now we just have to wait until November to see if he passed...


  • May 2001 - Jeff has finally graduated from law school!! No celebrating yet though; he is now in the midst of the painful 2 month long process of preparing for the bar exam which will be held in late July...


  • March 2001 - Unfortunately, Ikuko's company has become yet another victim of the dot com slaughter going on right now in the Bay Area and elsewhere. She gained much precious experience while working at onna.com but she is now looking forward to taking some much deserved time off.


  • November 2000 - Ikuko's company, onna.com has launched their long awaited web site.


  • September 2000 - Jeff has accepted an offer for a permanent position with Morrison & Foerster's San Francisco office after graduation!!


  • April 2000 - A completely revamped California Law Review website has successfully been launched!


  • March 2000 - Jeff has been selected to be the Research Editor (later renamed the Electronic Resources Editor) for the California Law Review for the 2000-2001 school year. Actually, he ran unopposed so it wasn't much of a surprise. He will primarily be focusing on creating a great new website to replace the old neglected one that is there now.


  • February 2000 - Ikuko has been offered a position with a Japanese Internet start-up company here in San Francisco called onna.com (now defunct). They will be launching a new website this fall aimed at Japanese women (onna means woman in Japanese.)


  • December 1999 - Jeff has been offered a position to work as a summer associate at Morrison & Foerster (more affectionately known as "Mofo") this summer. Mofo is a large San Francisco based international law firm with a very strong Japanese presence. He will be splitting the summer spending six weeks in Mofo's San Francisco office and six weeks in their Tokyo office.


  • September 1999 - Jeff has been accepted onto the California Law Review! For non-lawyers: law review is a student run organization (most law school's have one) that publishes the school's legal journal. Membership is generally determined by a writing competition that is held after the first year of law school. Jeff will have to work hard to fulfill the awesome responsibility that goes along with the honor of having been selected to be a member.


  • August 1999 - Ikuko and Jeff moved to a new apartment in an area of San Francisco known as Glen Park. Their first apartment after moving to San Francisco was near an area called the tenderloin, a not-so-nice part of town. Glen Park, however, is a much quieter and more residential area and should be a much more pleasant place to live.


  • July 1999 - Jeff has been accepted as a transfer student at Berkeley's Boalt Hall school of law.
